Overview

Discovering the secret villages of the Estéron Valley

A journey through one of the most unspoiled valleys of the French Riviera, where winding mountain roads lead to perched villages, dramatic cliffs, turquoise rivers and authentic local life.

Far from the busy coastal resorts, this experience takes you deep into the Estéron Valley, with time to explore, meet local people and discover the traditions, creativity and landscapes that make this hidden part of the Alpes-Maritimes so special.

This is more than a sightseeing tour. It is an opportunity to discover a little-known side of the French Riviera, where mountain landscapes, traditional villages, local craftsmanship and everyday life have remained remarkably authentic.

The itinerary is deliberately flexible and may be adapted according to road conditions, village accessibility, weather and opportunities to meet local people.

Bouyon

The Gateway to the Mountains

Our journey begins in Bouyon. We take time to wander through the old village and its narrow streets, admire the traditional stone houses and discover its local heritage.

A coffee break in the village offers a first opportunity to slow down and connect with the people who live and work here. Depending on the day and availability, we may meet local artists, craftspeople and artisans, discover their work and hear the stories behind their creations.

This informal encounter is an essential part of the experience: rather than simply visiting the village, we take the time to meet the people who give it its character and keep local traditions alive.

Roquestéron

Life Along the Estéron River

The road continues into the valley towards Roquestéron, a village closely connected to the Estéron River.

Explore its historic streets, old houses, fountains and Baroque church, before heading towards the river itself. The turquoise waters and surrounding limestone landscapes offer a striking contrast to the Mediterranean coast.

Roquestéron is also an ideal place to slow down and experience local life - meeting residents, discovering local products and perhaps stopping for a traditional lunch.

Aiglun

Cliffs, Gorges & Wild Landscapes

The journey then takes us to Aiglun, one of the most spectacular villages in the valley.

Set high above the Estéron, Aiglun is surrounded by the impressive Clue d'Aiglun, a dramatic limestone gorge carved into the mountains.

Walk through the village, discover its traditional houses and enjoy the views towards the surrounding cliffs. This is where the journey truly feels wild: rock, forest, river and mountains come together in an extraordinary landscape.

Ascros

A Village Above the Clouds

Our route then climbs towards Ascros, a remote mountain village perched high above the valleys.

The village has a true end-of-the-road atmosphere, with stone houses, narrow lanes and spectacular views across the surrounding Pre-Alps. Discover the remains of the Grimaldi Castle, the Romanesque church and the old agricultural terraces that tell the story of a traditional mountain community.

From Ascros, the landscape opens dramatically. On a clear day, the views stretch across the mountains towards the Mediterranean.

Good to know

Questions guests ask before booking

Where do we start, and at what time?

We pick you up at your hotel, villa or the cruise terminal. Departure is usually between 8:30 and 9:30 - earlier to beat the crowds, later if you are on holiday and it is holiday time.

How is lunch handled?

We book the table, you choose the register: a gastronomic restaurant, a Provençal bistro, or a farm table. Lunch is not included in the tour price so that you keep the choice. Dietary requirements are never a problem - tell us in advance.

What language will the tour be in?

English or French by default. Spanish, Arabic and Berber are also possible - Fouad speaks all five.

Can we combine this with another tour over two days?

Often the best plan. The second day is quoted at a reduced rate.

What happens if the weather turns?

The day shifts without losing its character. We only cancel for genuinely unsafe mountain or sea conditions, and then we reschedule or refund.

How and when do we pay?

You receive a written proposal with a firm price for your group. No deposit is required to hold a date more than a week out. Payment on the day, by card or in cash.
