Day 3Crossing the Atlas Mountains to Ouarzazate

Today we leave Marrakech behind and embark on one of Morocco's most scenic journeys, crossing the spectacular High Atlas Mountains on our way toward the edge of the Sahara Desert. Our route takes us over the famous Tizi n'Tichka Pass, reaching an elevation of 7,414 feet (2,260 metres) and offering breathtaking panoramic views of rugged peaks, terraced valleys and traditional Berber villages.

Along the way we will enjoy lunch at the Auberge Restaurant in Telouet, where stunning views overlook the historic Kasbah of the Glaoui family, once one of the most powerful dynasties in southern Morocco.

In the afternoon we continue to the legendary Ksar of Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco's most iconic landmarks. This remarkably preserved fortified village has served as the backdrop for numerous films and television productions, including Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven and Game of Thrones.

A short drive then brings us to Ouarzazate, often referred to as the "Gateway to the Sahara" and renowned for its extraordinary light that has attracted filmmakers, artists and photographers from around the world. Surrounded by dramatic desert scenery, palm groves and kasbahs, the city offers a fascinating blend of history and modern Moroccan life.

Upon arrival we will check into our accommodation and enjoy a relaxing evening in preparation for the desert adventures ahead.

Overnight: Local riad in Ouarzazate

Day 4Second day in Ouarzazate - the hidden oasis of Fint

After breakfast we will head towards the hidden oasis of Fint, a true haven nestled in the heart of the arid mountains. Upon arrival you will explore the oasis alongside local inhabitants and discover their traditional agricultural practices as well as their ingenious water management systems that allow life to flourish in such a dry environment.

You will also have the opportunity to witness the preparation of a traditional tagine, cooked by the women of the oasis who have come together in a local association dedicated to preserving their heritage and way of life. This same tagine will be served as your lunch, offering an authentic taste of the region.

Here, time seems to stand still, and a deep sense of peace and joy prevails.

In the afternoon we will continue with a visit to the historic Kasbah of Ouarzazate before returning to the riad toward the end of the day.

Overnight: Second night at the riad in Ouarzazate

Second day in Ouarzazate - the hidden oasis of Fint
Day 5Desert camp - first night

We set off towards the desert, with several important stops along the way.

Our first stop will be a visit, in the heart of a lush oasis, to an old 16th-century kasbah currently being restored by young people from a local Berber village, occasionally supported by European student associations. This meaningful initiative helps preserve the region's architectural and cultural heritage while giving new life to this historic site.

We then continue our journey to Zagora, where we will enjoy a traditional lunch in a green and peaceful oasis setting. After lunch we proceed to the village of Tamegroute, renowned for its distinctive pottery in elegant shades of green, crafted by local families using ancestral techniques.

We then continue towards the desert camp at Erg Lihoudi, switching to 4x4 vehicles for the final stretch of the drive. Upon arrival we settle into your luxury tents, each equipped with a private bathroom and shower, and take time to enjoy the serenity of the desert landscape. This is your opportunity to ride a camel, relax at the camp, or simply explore the surrounding dunes at your own pace.

In the evening we gather for a traditional desert music performance before enjoying dinner under the stars in the heart of the Sahara.

Day 6Desert trekking & drive to Erg Chegaga

Early risers may choose to wake up at dawn to witness the unforgettable sunrise over the Sahara, as the first light gently transforms the dunes into shades of gold and amber.

After breakfast at the camp we will prepare for departure and leave our main luggage safely stored in the tents. We then begin a 90-minute guided hike through the desert, offering a unique opportunity to experience the vast silence, raw beauty and powerful emptiness of this extraordinary landscape.

Midday, we will enjoy a picnic lunch in the heart of the dunes, surrounded by endless sand and absolute tranquillity.

In the afternoon our 4x4 vehicles will pick us up and we will continue our journey towards Erg Chegaga, a remote drive of approximately 90 minutes. Known as the largest and wildest dune area in Morocco, Erg Chegaga offers an exceptional sense of isolation and authenticity. The nearest paved road is about two hours away, and the closest light pollution is more than 60 km distant - making this one of the most pristine stargazing locations in the country.

Upon arrival at the second desert camp we settle in and take time to soak in the vastness of the landscape. As the sun sets over the dunes we gather to enjoy dinner in this magical setting, far removed from civilisation.

Day 7Off-road to Foum Zguid

For early risers there is once again the possibility to wake up at dawn and witness the magical sunrise over the Sahara, as the dunes slowly come alive with soft golden light.

After breakfast at the desert camp we leave the silence of the dunes behind and begin our journey back towards civilisation. The drive takes approximately three hours, crossing some of the most spectacular and diverse landscapes of the southern Sahara region.

We follow a breathtaking off-road trail that winds between desert plains and mountain backdrops - a historic route once used by caravans and still today favoured by motorcycle rallies and desert expeditions. Along the way the scenery constantly changes: vast golden dunes, a shimmering semi-dry lake, ancient fossil fields left by a prehistoric sea, and surprising pockets of greenery where hidden oases appear like mirages rising from the dust.

In the afternoon we arrive in the small village of Foum Zguid, where we will settle into a traditional riad and enjoy a well-deserved rest. The riad features a beautiful swimming pool, perfect for refreshing and relaxing after the desert journey.

Day 8Craft villages & Taroudant

Today we continue our journey towards the craft villages of southern Morocco as we leave Foum Zguid and head in the direction of Taroudant.

Our first stop will be Tazenakht, a village renowned for its women-run carpet cooperatives. If you wish to purchase an authentic Berber rug, this is the ideal place. Every purchase directly supports local women artisans, without intermediaries, ensuring that all benefits go straight to the producers. The cooperatives also handle the shipping process for your convenience.

We then continue to Taliouine, a Berber village located in the Souss Valley and widely recognised as the heart of saffron production in Africa. Here we will learn more about how this precious spice is cultivated and harvested using traditional methods passed down through generations.

Lunch will be served in a local restaurant in Taliouine, before we resume our drive through ever-changing and spectacular landscapes towards the historic walled city of Taroudant, often referred to as a "mini Marrakech" for its authentic charm and impressive ramparts.

Upon arrival we check into the beautiful Dar Zitoune hotel, known for its lush botanical gardens and peaceful atmosphere. In the evening we will enjoy dinner in Taroudant city.

Along the way we will stop at a women-run argan oil cooperative to learn about the traditional extraction process and discover how this precious oil is produced, while supporting local communities and women's empowerment initiatives.

In the afternoon we arrive in Essaouira, a historic fishing port and fortified coastal city facing the Atlantic Ocean, known for its artistic spirit, whitewashed medina and blue accents.

Upon arrival we check into the charming Riad Chbanate, located in the heart of the old medina. Later we will enjoy a leisurely walk through the UNESCO-listed streets of Essaouira, followed by dinner at a local restaurant.

This is the perfect day to slow down, relax and enjoy the city at your own pace - whether strolling through the medina, shopping in its charming artisan boutiques, or simply relaxing by the Atlantic Ocean.

You will wander through narrow, wind-swept streets lined with workshops and local craft shops, offering an ideal opportunity to find authentic souvenirs such as woodwork, textiles and local art pieces.

For lunch we will head to the lively fishing port, where we will experience a true Essaouira tradition: selecting fresh fish directly from the local vendors, before taking it to a nearby open-air grill restaurant where it will be prepared for us on the spot.

You may also certainly purchase your own alcohol to consume with dinners or aperitifs.
